Lowndes and Bates #888 Car Gets Throwback Inspired Livery for Bathurst

Jamie Whincup and Supercheap Auto Wildcard co-driver Zach Bates have revealed a throwback inspired livery for the #888 car to outgoing driver and Bathurst legend Craig Lowndes ahead of his last race with the Triple Eight team.

Media Release

Bathurst legend Craig Lowndes will take to the track at Bathurst for the last time driving for Triple Eight Race Engineering in a career with the team that has spanned twenty seasons, included over four hundred race starts, and six of his seven Bathurst 1000 wins including the famous three peat with Jamie Whincup in 2006, 2007, 2008.

The car being driven by Lowndes and Bates at Bathurst this year keeps the iconic Supercheap Auto Wildcard red and Make It Super branding while bringing in eye catching chrome accents to the sides, rear and a similar bonnet to the iconic Team Vodafone cars that were raced by Lowndes and Whincup during the 2012 Supercars season.

2025 is the fifth year Supercheap Auto have partnered with Triple Eight Race Engineering to run the Wildcard program and the fourth year Craig Lowndes has driven the #888 car, with previous co-drivers Declan Fraser, Zane Goddard, Cooper Murray and current co-driver Zach Bates.

The #888 car, driven by Zach Bates at Queensland Raceway then co-driven with Craig Lowndes at The Bend, has shown pace in qualifying and during races this season in promising signs for an attack on The Mountain later this week. This will be Bates’ first race at Bathurst in a Gen3 Supercar and Lowndes’ 32nd race start overall at the iconic track.

Craig Lowndes announced earlier this year that the 2025 season would be his last driving for Triple Eight, however he is expected to be on the grid in 2026 with another team.

The Bathurst 1000 starts on Thursday 8 October at Mount Panorama and will be broadcast free-to-air on Seven, 7mate and 7plus Sport.

Jamie Whincup

Managing Director, Triple Eight Race Engineering

“As much as Bathurst is about the race it’s about the fans. The fans remember the race, the cars, the drives as much as the result each year and there’ve been too many iconic moments at Bathurst to count.”

“Craig in his time with Triple Eight has been a part of so many of those iconic moments.”

“Twenty years with one team isn’t something that happens often in sport and we’ve been fortunate enough to ride the highs and lows with Craig over that time in what’ll end up being one of the most memorable legacies in motorsport.”

“The car looks great as a throwback to one of the team’s and Craig’s iconic cars. Craig and Zach have come through QR and The Bend together ready to race. We will, Zach will and we know Craig will attack The Mountain the same way he always has.”

Zach Bates

Driver #888 Chevrolet Camaro, Supercheap Auto Wildcard

“It’s crazy to think I’m doing my first Bathurst (in a Supercar) with Triple Eight while Craig is doing his last, and how long he’s been doing it for with this team.”

“I remember growing up watching him race around The Mountain and now we’re here in a car together. It’s our car but I love the touches taking it back to one of Craig’s old cars. I remember him racing around in that (2012) car. It looks really good!”

“Craig’s been great this season so far. We’ve had some good bits from QR and The Bend and are feeling really positive going into Bathurst. Can’t wait to get on track on Thursday.”

General Manager E-Commerce and Marketing, Supercheap Auto

“Bathurst is all about passion, performance, and the fans who live and breathe motorsport. Unveiling this throwback livery for Craig Lowndes, with the support of Zach Bates and Triple Eight, is our way of honouring that spirit and giving fans a deeper connection to the #888 Supercheap Auto Camaro. We can’t wait to see it take to the track this Thursday.”
