Penrite Oil was founded in 1926 by 16-year-old Les Mecoles in Melbourne, where the very first oils were blended on his mother’s kitchen stove and delivered by wheelbarrow. From these humble beginnings, Penrite quickly built a reputation for quality, trust, and innovation.
As Melbourne and Australia grew, so too did Penrite. The company expanded facilities throughout Victoria and introduced new automotive products, supporting the country’s rapidly developing road and rail networks.
In 1979, Penrite entered a new chapter when John and Margaret Dymond took ownership. With decades of global oil and additive expertise, they steered the company into an era of innovation, launching iconic ranges such as HPR and 10 Tenths Racing Oils.
Through the 1980s and 1990s, Penrite expanded across Australia with new facilities nationwide and entered international markets. In the 2000s, exports grew to over 20 countries, while sustainability-driven ranges like Enviro+ reflected a commitment to the future.
Today, nearly a century later, led by Toby Dymond, Penrite remains 100% Australian owned, proudly continuing the values of quality, innovation, and trust that began in a St Kilda kitchen in 1926.
