A tap cuts a female thread into the inside surface of a hole; a die cuts a male thread onto a cylindrical rod such as a bolt. Using the included holders to guide the tools slowly through the metal, you can either clean a stripped thread or create a new one entirely, saving the cost and downtime of replacing hard-to-access hardware.
The set covers both SAE and metric thread pitches: SAE sizes from 4-40NC through 1/2-20NF, and metric from 3mm × 0.50 to 12mm × 1.75. Included T-handle tap wrenches and a T-handle die stock feature knurled grips for confident control, and a standard tap wrench handles smaller taps. Dual screw pitch gauges (one SAE, one metric) help you identify the thread size before you begin, removing the guesswork from thread repair.
