The Polycraft Etch Primer 1 Litre is a single-part etching primer formulated for DIY paint preparation on bare metal panels. It bonds directly to mild steel, aluminium, zincalume, galvanised iron, chrome, copper, brass and stainless steel, giving an etched surface that promotes adhesion for the topcoat that follows. Once cured it accepts enamels, epoxies, lacquers, polyurethanes, acrylics and chlorinated rubber finishes, making it a flexible first step across most metal refinishing jobs.
Etch primer needs direct contact with the bare metal to etch properly, so the surface must be cleared of paint, rust and rough texture before application. Wiping the area with Polycraft General Purpose Thinners removes grease, oil and dirt residue, and the surface should be left to dry completely before the primer goes on. A fast drying formula keeps the job moving without long waits between preparation and topcoat.
