The Gates DriveAlign Drive Belt Idler Pulley 76mm 38009 is a grooved idler pulley for the serpentine belt drive on passenger cars and light trucks. Also known as the accessory belt drive system, this drive routes the belt across the alternator, water pump and air-conditioning compressor, and the idler pulley guides and supports the belt so each accessory turns under the right tension. Part 38009 can serve as a locked centre tensioning pulley, an automatic belt tensioner pulley or a plain idler pulley.
Gates builds the 38009 with a steel and thermoplastic construction for heat dissipation and dampening, and a V-ribbed 6 groove contact surface sized to original equipment specification. The 76mm outside diameter, 17mm bearing bore and 25mm width keep the pulley sitting true so the belt runs straight and the load is spread evenly. Bearings are matched to application-specific speed and load requirements with high operating temperature tolerance and less wobble, reducing wear, vibration and friction that shorten belt life. Mounting hardware is included for some popular applications.
