How To Install a EUFY Home Security System | Supercheap Auto
Overview
Security system installation was once an expensive job best left to the professionals. But today’s age of AI and wireless technology have changed all that. This article will show you how to install security system components including cameras, motion sensors, alarm keypads and entry sensors as you require them. Here we’ll be using EUFY security cameras to show you how to install a home security system.
How to choose a home security system
Before you learn how to install a home security system, you need to choose the right system for your home. Here are the four main areas you should look to cover when planning your security system installation.
1. Yard View Security Cameras
Start with a walk around your yard to identify which possible entry points you would like to cover with EUFY security cameras. You’ll certainly want one viewing your driveway and the street, possibly the back and sides too if they are easily accessible to intruders.
These cameras will be aimed wide to detect intruders as they enter your property, but they may not be the best at identifying people, unless it’s a 4K camera, which can capture a license plate up to ten metres away.
2. Entry point cameras
Ideally you will have every window and door covered by a camera. These cameras will be angled lower than your yard cameras to ensure anybody lurking around your home is easily identified. A video doorbell could be considered one of these. Don’t forget the shed and garage as well.
3. Interior cameras
Depending on the layout of your home, a few interior cameras might also make sense. These are also useful inside the garage or shed.
4. Motion & Entry Sensors
If you’re looking to set up more of a traditional alarm system; add motion sensors, entry sensors, and an alarm keypad to your shopping list. These can be used in conjunction with your security cameras.
What to know when purchasing a security system installation
EUFY security cameras are available in a bundle, or as stand-alone items. You can choose a bundle closest to your needs, then add on further pieces to complete the perfect home security system.
Some cameras will be better suited to certain locations than others. A camera with a wide angle of view might be the perfect candidate for a yard camera. Some models also feature an inbuilt spotlight, great for capturing suspicious activity at night or even scaring intruders away.
When shopping for your indoor security you won’t need weather proofed cameras, which can save you a bit of money. Choosing mains rather than battery powered cameras will save you money as well.
As you go through choosing your components, be sure to read the packaging carefully to ensure everything is compatible.

Steps
Install the HomeBase
The HomeBase is the brain for EUFY security cameras. It needs a wired connection to the internet, so it’s best to find it a home near your router. The connection from your HomeBase to your cameras and sensors is entirely wireless, so try and locate it central to your system so that each component will receive a strong signal.
Now you can use the EUFY app on your phone to connect with your HomeBase; and link up each of your security system components.
Position your components
Now it’s time to walk around the house and place each part roughly where it will be installed. This is to ensure each component has a strong connection to the HomeBase. Check the signal for each on your phone, and consider moving the HomeBase or individual components as required.
Position your cameras
Using the live view on your phone app, hold each camera in place and angle it to get the desired view. Ideally you should place each camera about three metres above the ground so that they are harder to tamper with. This probably means using a ladder, so have an assistant view the camera angles on the phone.
Mount your cameras
Mark the position of the mount with a pencil, then you can drill out the holes, fix the mounting plate for each camera, and re-position the camera. Be sure to give each camera a full charge before mounting, this will keep it going for up to 6 months.
Mount sensors and keypads
The door and window sensors, keypad, and motion detector are easy, they don’t even require tools. Clean the mounting area with soapy water, dry it off, then apply the mount using the included mounting tape.
