A gear puller is used to remove gears or pulleys from their centre shaft which is typically pressed on with minimal tolerance between the shaft and the gear to ensure minimal movement. The threaded centre of the gear puller has a hex end for a socket or spanner on one end, and a pointed end on the other that is used to brace on the centre shaft. The jaws on the gear puller then reach around to the rear of the pulley or gear. When a socket or spanner is used to tighten the centre thread of the gear puller, this then causes the jaws to pull backwards with uniform pressure, thus allowing the gear or pulley to be carefully pulled off the centre shaft.
