Can I replace the head gasket in my car?
Question from D.Scott:
I have done the head gasket (with potential for cracked head) on a VL commodore. Car has done 500,000 km and repair bill is more than cars value. Are any of the better quality head gasket sealants actually viable for a short term fix of this problem, and if so what brand would you recommend to try.
Answer:
Depending on if the head is cracked and how bad it is you could use Chemiweld to seal it up just ensure you read and follow the instructions carefully? There are different qualities in head gaskets however for your problem I would stick with just a basic one. Having done 500,000 km the engine is at the very limits of its life already and to spend big dollars on a top of the range gasket wouldn’t be wise or help your problem. Please be aware that Chemiweld is a temporary fix only.
